Gondola / Sightseeing
Float above the clouds as you are whisked to 7,700 feet. Take in panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains, the Columbia River Wetlands and the quaint town of Golden. During the journey, spot wildlife and perhaps even a glimpse of Kicking Horse resident grizzly bear, Boo.
Once at the summit, venture forth on a hike or simply soak up the endless mountain vistas from on top of the world. After all, the end of the gondola ride is simply the start of your next adventure.
Biking
People don't come to Kicking Horse Bike Park to ride the same old thing. They come for the differences, and we have plenty. Not only is the park the highest in the sky of all Canadian bike parks, but it also offers the longest descent. What this means is 1200 metres (4000 ft) of stupendous variety. The start of it is the view from the alpine launch which is dominated by the three mountain ranges that surround the park, and the wetlands of the Columbia Valley. From there it is all downhill where the wahoo factor is amplified by multiple berms, jumps, wooden features (Stickrock has to been ridden to be believed), rock slabs (look directly below the gondola to see the longest) and plenty of good ol' white-knuckle singletrack. The only thing missing is crowds, but we suspect you won't mind that. Kicking Horse also provides a selection of rental equipment as well as camp and lesson options for your biking pleasure.
Grizzly Bear Refuge
Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is home to the world’s largest enclosed and protected grizzly bear habitat. This is where resident orphan grizzly bear Boo lives and plays. Visitors are given the opportunity, as part of a one-of-a-kind interpretive tour, to view a grizzly bear interacting much as they do in the wild; foraging, hunting, playing, swimming, snoozing and exploring. Starting at 9am tours are held every hour on the hour throughout the summer season. These tours are educational and interactive, allowing guests a unique opportunity to view this incredible mammal and learn about the plight of this blue listed species. The Refuge is accessible by a 15 minute scenic chairlift ride, followed by a short stroll to the Interpretive Center. The Refuge is open daily and guests are welcome to stay as long as they wish. |
